In 1880, M.A. Wilson returned home after fishing, and set to work cleaning one of his plaices, a flatfish a bit like a flounder, when something caught his eye. Inside the fish’s belly was a miniature gold charm of an opera glass. Wilson commissioned a gold locket to encase his find, and had it hand engraved: “Drawn from a plaice by M.A Wilson 1880”.
